I believe you’ve summarised the fix incorrectly. I’m with @Tilman ‘s interpretation, as for me it was fixed (on a second device now) by draining the battery completely, indeed taking weeks. I expect this causes a boot loop to stop, and I agree that it’s a poor solution.
Hmm, in the meantime, I found a quick solution on the web:
Unplug (may be for a while) - hold the button - plug and unplug at least twice - leave plugged
Et voilà, the device is back… and after connecting to the meshtastic app, it is still indicating more than 50% battery. So, from my POV, it was going to shutdown mode for no reason.
