So We get the “But” part,
So true, this is relatively new tech for Seeed, so not all the fine details are worked out. It has gotten 100% better than what is offered by others and is most display providers.
that being said, (3 months) “in wiki”, The power management and battery life is extended Via the “SLEEP” and how you get longer power reserves. The Partial refresh is the holy grail of theses devices so, NOT all support it. Have you checked the Wiki for it? and also the specific Sensecraft wiki ? most is addressed there.
the main intro launch page also has a lot of good info on there as well.
I have seen on Discord a guy who used his own image server with mqtt AFAIK it is doable. The expansion pins are also addressed in the wiki and The S3 Plus is very capable, WiFi & BT are supported.
A lot of what you ask for is a “CAN-DO” but only by You , until the product matures and more firmware becomes available.
yes I use the sensecraft and this allows me to do the functions I need to start. With enough programming I am sure all functions can be solved and made as I like.
the only hardware issue for me is the sun/heat resistance.
i have to look into the ESPhome and trmnl stuff, looks like a promising starting point.
sofar i couldnt find much about the expansion pins and sleep.
Ok, yes it is a promising , they are not without issues though, some display discoloring is reported on Discord… after 3 months. Seeed is looking into it, I feel that either the controllers are the issue IMO, or the manufacturing process of the larger displays. I’m pretty sure the ability to use the I/O pins is a work in progress, only the pins are listed in the wiki, no code examples exist AFAIK.
