Awesome little Kit Stack!
What project are you planning to do with this?
just testing… it can function as a Meshtastic cilent or repeater… also a LoRa module I am planning to test more over the hollidays
Hi there by any chance can you get a P2P setup going for this module?
i have not tried yet but plan too!
I received a couple of these a few weeks ago, and have found that compared to the Heltec V3 that they have almost no range. I’ve tried them with four different antennas with similar setup that my Heltec’s have, and can only reach other nodes in my backyard. My V3’s normally have 80 to 100 nodes in their list. If I turn off my V3’s the Xiao nodes do not see any other nodes in my area.
I also had trouble assigning GPIO pins for and external notification LED. Each time I assigned a pin, the Xiao would lock up completely and I had to re-flash the Meshtastic firmware. I had to try 5 different pins before I got it to work.
Has anyone else been having similar issues?
Hello –
As I see you have the kit mounted upon a Xiao Expansion Board, I wonder what you have found with the PIN_BUTTON at 1 and the PIN_BUZZER at 3?
When I attempt to set those pins in the app, Radio Config>Device Config> and attempt redefine those pins, I get no-joy. In fact I lose function of the USER BUTTON on the Wio board, for like scrolling screens. I carousel 5" because I don’t like mashing that button (board) through to the B2B connxn. Anyway, the Wio button maps to GPIO21 and maybe there is a way to do something with that.
Anyway the Wio board takes up the 1 and 3 pins with its BUSY and NSS (SPI_CS?) pins. So wondering what experience you have in these matters?
Thanks
if you update the meshtastic firmware for the unit, it will use 3 for the buzzer
as for the button… i have not tried… but i do believe the button works opposite when you press it brings the line down instead of up… so that may be a problem
Well, that was stupid fast. Thanks man.
My Xiao came pre-flashed with Meshtastic 2.5.2, but I will check what is latest stable release.
So, I just got these Xiao boards yesterday, made my first post last night, finished my first project today, and wrapped up last night’s post. Phew!
I got in my head to assume that the BUZZER would respond on events associated with the L76 GNSS I dropped below the Expansion board, with the same kit you show above. Wanted to see if this was so.
My other interest in the BUTTON on the Expansion board was to serve the purpose of ad-hoc broadcast and GPS enable/disable.
All the best,
yes! i would like to get that button working too… but i am not too familure with how to “program” in meshtastic… the buzzer will sound when you push a configuration update from the app
make sure if you update firmeare ALWAYS use the meshtastic flasher webpage
also i am sure you know that the gpio pin number and the physical pin number are often not the same
Yeah, I got that when I was playing with an ESP-8266 and Blynk years ago. This feature of the deal does produce a head slap moment once in a while.
Anyway, I am thinking the line to GPIO21 is internally connected and don’t know enough if that can be remapped to somewhere else, like say one of the Grove ports on the Expansion Board. Then again I am using Meshtastic and mebe seems like cannot change much in way of the code for such a thing.
I currently measure my experience in these matters in numbers of hours.
edit: And thanks for the link to the PDF above!
Could you share your process and which pin you found to work for your external notification LED?
This could prove handy for folks just figuring their way around this S3+Wio kit. Thanks!
i am sorry… but can you explain the problems you are having? Yes I agree the Wio daughterboard does noit connect securly… i have several times lost it in the woods and tried to find it…
I think this device is being developed to be an alternative
I also do not like the new device… Seeed has a problem with taking owner criticism and needs for improvement. Unfortunatly in China they do not have this type of feedback loop
I used GPIO PIN 4/D3 it worked with my LED notifications, but still seems to cause trouble when trying to make other config changes.
I still haven’t had much help from tech support. There is apparently a known problem with the ipex connector on some of the LoRa hats. After more than a month Seeed still hasn’t provided a solution. I have two nodes that don’t work.
Is this directed at me? Did you see my previous comments?
i am still not really understanding… you say the connector fell off?
The LoRa ipex connector is bad on both of my nodes. The signal is so poor that i can’t pick up any nodes beyond 20 meters. Sometimes one node is able to connect, but the ipex connection is intermittent. Seeed seems to be aware of the issue, but they have not offered to send me a new node.
i think it just has bad reception no matter what
