Thanks, I used this as a guide. After several hours of trial and error, I muddled my way around PowerShell (never used it before) and several installations of Python, I ended up getting the T1000 in a working condition.
I then updated the other T1000 to the new firmware without doing an erase and it too is now fully operational.
