reComputer J401 - support for Super Mode

Hi, will the reComputer J401 support J6.2 and power mode maxn super?
As stated in news about new version in NVIDIA JetPack 6.2 Brings Super Mode to NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano and Jetson Orin NX Modules | NVIDIA Technical Blog the boards for NX will need to have updated thermal designs to support it.

Hence my question? Will j401 carrier board support Jetson Orin NX modules using uncapped power?

Yes, we are testing the jetpack 6.2 internally. And we will release them once we are sure that MAXN Super configuration won’t damage the boards.

I see that J401 Is not supported for JP6.2 anymore. Do you have more updates/insights about this?

reComputer J3011 (J401 carrier board with Orin Nano 8GB) supported Super configuration now, see J401 Flash Jetpack.

As for reComputer J4012 (J401 + Orin NX 16GB), certain modifications are required for carrier board. There isn’t detailed information regarding the modifications now and we may provide some light customization on J4012 in near future.

The new J401 carrier board that support Orin NX 16GB with super configuration is being designed and tested, subsequent customer purchases will be the new J401 carrier board.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the replies.

Just to clarify, J401 carrier board (on its own) for Jetson Orin Nano with JetPack 6.2 does not support Super Mode as of now?

If not, is there a rough timeline on when the new J401 carrier board might be released?

Thank you!

This jetpack 6.2 for reComputer J3011 is build with super mode enabled.

Does the problems with the super mode also apply to the reComputer Mini J4012? It looks like a different board with better cooling.

Hi Kevin, any update on the modifications / modified carier board for the J4012 (Orin NX 16GB)? I’m kind of disappointed that I cannot leverage the super mode atm. If it requires a new carier board, so be it, but I would like to know when this will be available.

Hi there,

And welcome here…

So the Super mode came well after theses clones, unfortunately they are NOT capable see note 1 (click the image to read the fine print)

and they will announce the new model when it’s ready and tested.

A glimpse of the new super series. The reComputer Super J4012 will comes with default JetPack 6.2 that enabled super mode support.

note: product is not officially released, any material may subject to change

datasheet

We estimate release the reComputer Super series within these two months.

  • The new super J401 carrier board (with new part number: 202004250) will support Jetson Orin Nano and Orin NX with super mode configurations.
  • The previous J401 carrier board (SKU: 102110770), used by reComputer J3011/J3010/J4011/J4012 does not support MAXN super mode on Jetson Orin NX modules. It support Jetson Orin Nano with super mode configurations and we have already released the JetPack 6.2

Hi,
Apologies for jumping on this thread but I was wondering if there are any plans to release the board files for the “Super” reComputer J401. The J4012 have all the hardware features that we need (mainly 4 CSI camera support) but we need to customize the board with some additional hardware.

Thanks
Mike

Hi! We would also like to know if there are going to be any files released for the J401 Super carrier board. We are particularly interested in the 4 csi camera connectors, wich differs from the j401 “classic” board.

Hello @Seeed_Kevin,

I have seen that the new carrier board can be ordered as a bundle with a Jetson module: seeedstudio com/reComputer-Super-Bundle.html

When will the carrier board alone be available?

I have same question. I would like to upgrade my board to support super mode, but I already have case and everything from J4012. Or alt least have list of parts to order to make upgrade possible.

@seeed_kevin, what’s the problem with responding within a month? The bundle has been available for purchase for months now. When will the carrier board 202004250 be available as a standalone product?

I haven’t seen a clear answer to this yet:
Can the old “classic” J4012 reComputers run Jetpack 6.2? I realize Super Mode could be problematic from a power and heat dissipation standpoint, but what if super mode is not used? I just want to be clear on whether JP6.2 is an option for this hardware, or if we have to stick with JP6.1.

Hi there,

The short ANSWER is NO.
the J4012 and the J4011 are NOT updated to the JP6.2 due to the instability introduced with “SUPER mode” the Higher current draw and temperatures effects the stability in most use cases.
the 6.2 was intended to address the other models.

It was stated in NOTE 1 of the compatibility grid also.(fine print)

Thanks for the response.

I guess I was hoping that maybe we could just run it not in super mode, but still benefit from the minor bug fixes and security improvements from JP6.1 to JP6.2.1. Does this mean the original J401 boards will no longer be able to receive software updates beyond J6.1?

Hi there,

I hope not, but I could See an EOL with the “Super” rate this stuff is changing though. The answer is “ABOVE my pay grade” (free)
but from past examples they will formally say, and usually security and most any major bugFix’s would be given some support.

IMO ,I think they tend to follow NVIDIA’s lead on it, and why wouldn’t they?

probably update the grid on the wiki first, so I’ll watch that . :+1:

Dear @Seeed_Kevin , could you please answer the question?

I was so unlucky to have ordered the non super version J4012 less than a month ago and get to find out that it’s already doomed and deprecated.

Can you please advise about the carrier board?, Is possible to get the carrier board and the fan so that we can get that 33% higher performance with super mode?
