I’m having a kit of XIAO ESP32C3 + XIAO ePaper Breakout Board + XIAO 7.5" Monochrome ePaper Display.
I was able to flash the ESP32C3 sitting in the ePaper Breakout Board and this is working as expected (powered by USB-C), booting up within a few seconds and coming alive as needed.
As soon as I connect the ePaper panel to the breakout board the ESP32C3 doesn’t start anymore, behaves like “dead”. When disconnecting the ePaper panel again everything is fine.
I then changed power source from USB-C to the 3V3/GND pins on the breakout board using a laboratory power supply. Again without ePaper panel everything is fine - the ESP32C3 consumes between 15 and 75mA depending on usage/load.
When the ePaper panel is connected the current raises up to 2,5A (I set a limit on that value) and stays constant until power is switched off. I waited about 5-10sec but didn’t see a boot process of the ESP32.
There is no own wiring except the connections to the power pins of the breakout board.
Is this normal or is the ePaper panel needing so much power during start? For me it looks like something is defective or wrong - but I have no idea what it could be…
Any help/hint is highly appreciated! Thanks a lot!
