nRF54L15 board with nRF Connect SDK v3.2.0

Hi

Have you tried the nRF54L15 board with the recently released nRF Connect SDK v3.2.0?

Matter:

  • Integration of Matter 1.5.0 with dedicated sample for closures:

    • Better closures - Supporting different motion types (sliding, rotating, opening), configurations (single/dual panels, nested mechanisms), and improved safety features (through precise position reporting).

    • Soil sensors - Introducing soil sensors that enable Matter-based valves and irrigation systems to optimize water use for plants.

    • Energy management - Providing real-time data on energy prices, carbon data, and advanced smart metering, thereby improving tracking, enabling grid coordination, and supporting EV charging features.

Device Firmware Update (DFU) and Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA):

  • Single slot DFU support for the nRF54H20 SoC and the nRF54L Series.

This version contains more examples:

  • Matter: Closure
  • Matter: Contact sensor
  • Matter: Light bulb
  • Matter: Light switch
  • Matter: Door lock
  • Matter: Manufacturer-specific
  • Matter: Smoke CO Alarm
  • Matter: Temperature Sensor
  • Matter: Template
  • Matter: Thermostat
  • Matter: Window covering

Hi there,

SO , here is the Details. Everyone can benefit from these FREE webinars , choc full of good info. BLE core 6.2 is a Huge Step forward in BLE comms. Register today :+1:
Nordic usually posts full release notes when the stable version ships — currently there’s preview material around v3.2.0, and not yet widely published official stable notes at the time of your inquiry. But these teasers indicate meaningful platform improvements.

" In this webinar, we will talk about the exciting new features of the latest nRF Connect SDK release, including nRF Connect SDK bare metal option, with demo showcasing.

nRF Connect SDK is Nordic’s software development kit for Bluetooth® Low Energy, Bluetooth® Mesh, Zigbee, Thread, Matter, Wi-Fi, and cellular IoT applications. nRF Connect SDK is a comprehensive and scalable solution that supports our nRF52, nRF53, nRF54, nRF70 and nRF91 Series devices."

Some highlights include:

  • Support for Matter 1.5.0 and new Matter tools (Quick Start and Cluster Editor)
  • Support for Bluetooth Core version 6.2
  • Experimental single-bank DFU
  • Updates on bare metal option for nRF54L Series

More highlights can be found in the release notes for nRF Connect SDK 3.2.0.

THIS is Big and will get a lot of people to use it more…IMHO

  • Introduced the Matter Quick Start app as part of nRF Connect for Desktop. This tool allows you to set up and configure Matter accessory devices and evaluate Matter samples without installing the nRF Connect SDK and setting up the development environment.

Nice but does it work with XIAO nRF54L15 board or only Nordic DKs?

Hi there,

I won’t spoiler it for you… :+1:

Suffice to say " To work with the Matter protocol, accessory devices such as sensors, lights, or door locks must be paired with a Matter controller device, which is usually a smart hub or mobile device. Setting up the ecosystem and pairing accessory devices is a required step in the process, and it is often a point where users encounter difficulties. "

This tool aims to make evaluation and testing easier. I’m all for EASY! :crossed_fingers:

Please let us know how you go with your development

It would be interesting to get some actual development steps on how to build and modify Matter devices using the new SDK as well as modifying the Matter Clusters using the Nordic Matter Cluster Editor (not just “go read the docs” - which generally equates to “I really don’t have a clue”).

Some information on how to include persistent storage would be extremely useful.

Finally tips on how to get FOTA working on an OpenThread Matter fabric.

PS> The only Matter Application I’m having trouble with is the “Closure” application. All others join fabric (via Home or Eve on HomePod) and work as expected.

Kinda “small” at the moment… only a few “examples” to “Quick Start” with…

… and on limited devices…

Compared to MG24’s “Demo’s” (also limited to “known” devices - excludes XIAO!) …

Matter controllers are not yet compatible with Closure devices at this time. (Matter 1.5).
