Maybe I’m just overthinking things, but with the current political tensions with China, I am wondering if supplies for ESP32 (from Seeed as well as other distributors) might be tougher to get? I note that on Amazon, the delivery time is much longer now than it used to be (previously I could always order a 3-pack of a Seeed ESP32 for overnight delivery) but no longer. And I was ordering lots of these as I was burning through them like candy
The issue is not just academic. I hope to use the ESP32 (XIAO board if possible) in my product that I hope to release commercially. But I’m wondering if large quantities might now (or in the future) be harder to come by in the U.S.?
SO I’m afraid Yes, but hope NO! This sux for everyone… but makers will be damaged, slowed down, creativity stifled, innovation is limited by this actions, for what a lot of empty promises and world wide political embarrassment, No not my deal. Clowns in charge doesn’t do it for me. You see the price hikes already , this is non-sense oh’ and hay Unions, they are coming for you, mark my words.
say yes to tech and NO to Tariffs IMO.!
Hey Buddy. Yeah, generic ESP32s were so damn cheap in large quantities. Even the XIAO ESP32C6 for all it comes with, is only $5.00 direct from Seeed. I just checked the Seeed order page and now these are on backorder.
I’m still not quite there yet, but I’ve been working hard on my project and (hopefully) soon I will get to the point of getting quotes for large quantities. But if cheap and large quantities of ESP32s are not available (and of course I prefer the XIAO with its strong wireless performance, before I got here I used official Arduino MCUs but their wireless sucked), then I don’t know how this will play out for my venture or any consumer electronics company for that matter.
So yeah, I guess this problem is real. and it will probably only get worse. I’m not aware of any U.S. made microcontroller that is comparable in features and price to the chinese ones. I don’t want to offend anyone, but I’m just wondering if all those who voted for this are still happy with their vote?
Similar sentiments. Several years I been watching the innovative work coming out of Seeed Studio. Then I finally get here, and seemingly at the worst time for sourcing parts out of CN. Fortunately US warehouse got me started, but yeah, going forward looks a bit uncertain for satisfying my arduixiaon.
