Drone Laws in America

Drone Laws in America are STUPID
I got a DJI Mini 4K on the way
I am planning to use it to lift a Tracker 1000-e into the air to be a Meshtastic Repeater Node. The whole laws are completly useless. even though the drone is supposed to be exempt, its not… or it all depends on whatever
Its exempt maybe if it is used for fun… but if you have too much fun you need a license for that… so i am smart and can pass any test so i figgure i will just take the test… but it cost $175… about half the cost of the drone… and you have to install all these apps and avoid scams to and it took over 3 hours to schedule a test to take 5 days out… what da… all third party scams

Very good Free Drone Exam Training

I passed my drone exam with a 92% which is good enough for government work… i think they threw in a few trick questions

Chris,

Are you certain you are not simply looking for airspace authorization prior to operating in controlled airspace? Are you truly looking to operate at variance with three different established federal regulations?

What is exactly that you are looking to do in order to accomplish your mission?

We are here to help.

It seems there are three separate topics here: “Lessons Learned” Feedback, your waiver application / the waiver process in general, and remote pilot certification.

There is a tab on the top of the web form https://uas-support.faa.gov/s/ titled Lessons Learned where Stakeholders can submit Feedback that is routed to the appropriate subject matter experts for their review and consideration. No response is generally provided to those types of feedback submissions.

In this case, you submitted a question to us in the UAS Support Center instead, and I responded to it. It isn’t that we find it burdensome to receive criticism, it is that your submission was provided to us as an inquiry rather than a feedback, and we did not have any context. This is what we received from you:

You wrote that you did not believe a human evaluated your request, and that it did not receive required attention. I responded to you in great detail on both of those concerns, and provided reference materials and guidance for future submissions.

You actually selected email as your preferred method of contact on your inquiry submission. I did try and call this afternoon, but it went to your voicemail. You are always welcome to request a call back if further clarification is needed.

As you suggested, yes, an Applicant should work offline and copy and paste their responses to the Guiding Questions along with identifying hazards and providing risk mitigations. You are most welcome to add attachments as well.

This office does not adjudicate waivers. We provide regulatory guidance. When an Applicant doesn’t provide any details to analyze, the Waiver Team is not going to be able to provide much detail in a subsequent denial letter. Your feedback regarding their generic denial template was passed along to the Waiver Team management.

Below was the entirety of your waiver application. There was no attempt to answer the Guiding Questions, there are no hazards identified, and there are no risk mitigations provided.

Your request was submitted on 16 July. A denial letter was issued two weeks later. Your comment regarding 60 days is not applicable here. Again, I must ask if you intended on requesting an airspace authorization instead of an operational waiver?

Operational Waivers can take 90 days or more to process depending on complexity. A waiver is an approval to operate at variance with a rule. The burden is on the Applicant to show their operation can be conducted safely under the terms of a waiver, if granted.

Lastly, I understand you may have taken and passed the Remote Pilot Knowledge Test. The question of whether you have yet obtained a remote pilot certificate is not in any way related to their denial of your waiver request. A permanent remote pilot certificate has not yet been generated. I was simply wanting to make sure you were able to successfully submit your application in IACRA by following these steps.
