Can Track Ball Processor Host Apps

I see from the Github submissions that the Track Ball product contains a processor but that it is restricted to mouse-like functionality. I wonder if code for color selector for controlling a RGB LED could be hosted by the trackball processor itself. What I have in mind is R-Y/B-Y gain selection for hue control with the trackball and selecting between brightness (with brightness controlled by the trackball) and color hue control with the trackball click switch. Seems silly to put the app in another processor and only use the trackball for communicate to the RGB microprocessor controller the brightness and hue selections for a RGB LED when the trackball processor could probably do the job itself.
