XIAO ESP32C3 WIth no battery connected charge LED blinks (fast)

Brand new ESP32C3, only connection is the USB-C from the computer. NO battery connection.

Initial powerup the Red Charge LED blinks fast, too fast to count but can be seen by eye.

Uploaded Arduino IDE “Blink without delay” sketch with D1 set as the output. Uploaded this sketch, RED charge LED is the same.

Is this normal? Do I need to do something specific? Could it be a bad board?

Thanks
John

Hello,
if you want to use the Blink the LED example, you need to attach an external LED light. As shown in the picture:

The charge led is used to detect whether the power-on is normal. So when you upload the code, the charge led stays the same.
