Wow, thank you very much! All this is much appreciated. I’ll start with a quick test to see if disabling the interrupts addresses the issue, but I’ll investigate the other options as well. I should mention that my application is really quite trivial: I’m adding a motor to replace the thumb screw on a simple copy stand (holds a camera vertically to allow photographing media and film). The thumb screw turns a worm drive the raises and lowers the camera carrier and my aging thumbs would prefer not having to turn it manually. I’m using a stepper for fine grain control, as well as I’ll have presets for specific media sizes. So disabling interrupts only during travel (i.e., while the motor is running) may actually be a long term option. TBC. Thank you again!
