Use Grove Water Sensor for detecting water on floor

I would like to automatically detect if there is water on the floor of my room and the Grove Water Sensor seems ideal. I was however wondering how I can make sure the whole unit does not shortcut the GrovePi+ and thereby the raspberry pi. Do you have any practical advice how to actually the sensor and how to use when exposed to water?
