Spartan 7 SEA no longer responding, not showing up as a COM Port

OK, take two. I started to post this a few days ago, but then figured I should try to recover the unit via attaching it to an Arduino Mega / Ardino UNO. No luck. All signs point to a problem with the ESP32, though I admit I’m not absolutely certain about that.

Previous to this issue, any time I plugged the Spartan 7 SEA into my computer, it immediately popped up as a new COM Port. It in no longer recognized as a COM Port, or as anything really. It’s like it’s been bricked.

When I plug it in directly to my PC, the Spartan 7 SEA immediately lights all 3 LEDs and they all stay on steadily. No blinking. Two green and one red. It is not recognized as a COM port. This is the same behavior I see when I attach the Spartan 7 SEA to an Arduino Mega, as well as when I plug the Spartan 7 SEA into a standard Arduino UNO, as well as when I simply attach the Spartan 7 SEA to standard power. The absence or presence of a SD card does not seem to have any effect.

I used the Getting Started Guide, and followed the instructions. I installed all necessary Libraries and then ran 02LoadConfigBitstream. After that, I immediately lost connectivity with the Spartan 7 SEA, and now I can no longer program it. It doesn’t show up as COM port on my computer anymore, and I don’t know how to perform a “factory reset”. The Reset button is not recognized and performs no function. The Boot button is not recognized and performs no function. The FPGA Reset button is not recognized and performs no function. The User buttons are unprogrammed.

I would very much like to recover this Spartan 7 unit as I am studying FPGA devices right now for use in cryptanalysis projects.

Does anyone have any ideas, perhaps of how to perform a factory reset. Since the Spartan 7 SEA is not recognized by my computer anymore, any programming, interfacing, use of the Arduino IDE, test sketches, etc. are most likely non-options.

I need to know how to perform a hard reset and recover the SEA so it appears as a COM port again when I plug it into my computer, and the Arduino IDE will recognize it again. Right now it definitely bricked.

Any & all suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The Spartan 7 isn’t so easily broken. The serial port comes from the USB to serial chip, if this is burned out, you can probably replace the chip yourself. @johnmbittenbinder
