We’re trialling the SenseCAP M2 LoRa gateway (with 4G) for use in a large LoRa deployment. We’d like to use multinetwork IoT SIM cards, but the gateway must support data roaming.
There is no option to enable data roaming, and the gateway is not connecting to the 4G network, so I assuming roaming is not enabled. It it possible to enable 4G data roaming on this gateway?
Hi @blinken the M2 uses Quectel 4G module which has enabled roaming automatically.
may I know which operator you are using and whether the operator SIM card needs a specific APN configuration?
If you can share your gateway EUI with [email protected], the tech support team will check the issue.
many thanks for the pointer. I tested the SIM in a phone, then back in the gateway, and now it works well. It’s possible there was some activation process that needed to happen.
I know in the past concerns have been raised on this forum about excessive data consumption from the SenseCAP M2 LoRa gateways. Are you able to provide an estimate of the 4G data consumption required by an idle SenseCAP gateway (ie. no LoRa traffic)?
to close the loop on this, the current data usage for the SenseCAP M2 LoRa gateway on cellular appears to be about 20-30MB/day (max. 900MB/month), processing about 10 LoRa packets per minute.
@blinken Most of the data is the gateway maintenance data, like a heartbeat, ping internet connection, ping LoRaWAN server to keep alive, however, we are trying to reduce the data usage now, possibly, from 20-30M to 3m per day.
