Hi everyone, I recently got a reComputer J1010 and I’m trying to use an SD card image that works fine on my Jetson Nano Dev Kit. It’s the Ubuntu 20.04 + JetPack 4.6.1 image from here:
I followed the instructions for SD card boot, but when I try it, the device doesn’t actually boot from the SD card. Instead, it seems to clone the eMMC system onto the SD card and continues using that.
What I want is to boot directly from my custom SD image, like I do on the Jetson Nano. Is that possible with the J1010?Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful.
did you figure it out. im going through hell right now trying to do it. i blew up my emmc drive and it wont “mount” and my sd card tries to use 4.6.1 and then has a installation error in the end
Unfortunately, it’s not working I’ve tried 100 times but it simply doesn’t work in any way. I’ve been struggling with this for weeks. There is no useful information about this issue on their website. If loading is not possible except via eMMC, this should have been clearly stated on the site. It looks like the products I purchased will go to waste.
Hi! Yea i was super pissed it didnt work. i ended up buying another one too on amazon and i bricked that one too. I said fudge it, returned both of them, and found the official jetson nano on ebay for 100$. The memory card here worked INSTANTLY. Seeed studio is an absolute joke. I’m actually right in the middle of working on my project right now on my official jetson, and its going very smoothly. You should contact them and return it if you can, its a shitty product. If you do plan on it, you should defintely get the official jetson from ebay. It’s SO worth it, and your time. So sad to see so many buyers going through the struggles we went through and having to end up getting screwed. Good luck my friend!
edit - Actually I just re read ur post and realized you already have the jetson, so you know full well that it works. Seeed studio is a scam
Yes, since I’ve been working on the original Jetson, I expected this one to work the same way but it looks like we’ve been misled. I’ll probably try to return it as well. Turns out I’m not the only one experiencing this issue; there’s clearly a problem with the device. Thanks for letting me know .
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration our product rought you. We understand how upsetting it must have been, and we appreciate the time and effort you’ve put into troubleshooting.
Actually, our reComputer series uses a custom carrier board developed by Seeed Studio, which requires a different flashing procedure. So any tutorials on flashing system to Nvidia official carrier board would not work:)
To correctly flash the system on a reComputer device, you must first activate the SD card function on the reComputer board, and then proceed with the system flash using the method detailed in our official Wiki guide. You can find the step-by-step instructions at the following link:
Sorry for the late response, and we’re truly sorry to hear about your experience. We completely understand your expectations, especially if you’ve been working with the original Jetson board.
However, the key difference is the Seeed reComputer uses different carrier board rather than the Nvidia official one. In that case, you should follow our wiki instructions to flash a system into SD card. We realize this may have caused confusion, and we sincerely apologize if this led to any inconvenience or a sense of being misled.
To help resolve this, we’ve provided a detailed guide on our official Wiki which explains the correct flashing steps for our device:
And While I’m very sorry you had issue’s. To make such a blanket Statement
like that is WRONG , very Wrong!
You didn’t have the common sense to read the Wiki and follow the directions. Did you even read ANY forum posts on the product? I don’t think you did based on your LAME remarks. I see you tried the nvidia tech though LOL… to update/ upgrade when it say’s EVERYWHERE not to. Then you bricked a Second one , I ask myself, How stupid is someone to do it a second time, the same thing … Talk about the definition. So you got bit and that’s your fault. The hardware works if you do it right. PERIOD!
Seeed Studio makes Excellent products some so complex that MORONS have problems trying to use because their mom isn’t around to Spoon feed them the “How To info” or read the Wiki’s and forum posts for them.
grow up with that, you think YOU’RE the only one, far from it. Suck it up and go figure it out. or better yet LEARN by what you did, go and BUY the right thing. Howling…
First of all, I’m aware that I need to read the wiki page and I did exactly that. I followed the instructions not from NVIDIA’s official documentation, but specifically from Seeed Studio’s own wiki, as you also linked. So, the steps you referred to have already been applied.
However, I’m not sure if my original question was fully understood. As I mentioned at the beginning, when using the method from your wiki, the system on the eMMC is cloned to the SD card. But that’s not what I want.
What I’m trying to do is boot from a custom system image, different from the one on the eMMC. I need to use Ubuntu 20.04, and since it works perfectly on the standard Jetson Nano Developer Kit, I assumed it would also work here.
If it’s not possible to boot any image other than your default Ubuntu 18-based system, it would be very helpful if you could clearly confirm this.
