I want to install FreeNAS on the Seeed Odyssey with eMMC storage windows pre installed but not activated.
I am following the official guide:
But when I choose the volume on which it should be installed, after Install/Upgrade, the password prompt and the selection whether bios or uefi it does not start. It just says
“dd: /dev/mmcsd0: Operation not permitted
The FreeNAS installation on mmcsd has failed. Press enter…”
There are 3 partitions mmcsd0 mmcsd0boot0 and mmcsd0bboot1.
But no matter which configuration I choose, it gives me the error.
Can I wipe the eMMC Storage in another way and install freenas as root?
question besides the overall error. Should I create swap before installing?
Yes I’ve enable CSM.
The file system on micsd0boot0 and mmcsd0boot0 are read-only and I assume that these are just the partitions of the SD Card I am using or the eMMC.
Or can I Plug the Odyssey in another computer and wipe the SD card as an external drive? Ist there a flash mode other than the boot mode on the odyssey?
I believe Ubuntu has gparted. Personally on my unit I have had issue with getting non uefi images to boot from eMMc. So far only UEFI Mint or Fedora installed from a live desktop have booted post install on the eMMc otherwise they don’t seem to be recognized by bios. SSD install had no issues.
What do you mean with live usb, a usb Stock with a normal image of freenas ?
How can I wipe the eMMC in another way?because I deleted the eMMC not fully I guess, with the preinstalled windows Boot Manager still existing, but I cannot Boot into this anymore.
I accidentally canceled the first attempt with ctrl-c and now I cannot starte the installation
Should have added the from the beginning to understand the problem.*
