Is it safe to disconnect the connector at the antenna? I would like to temporarily disconnect it so that I can route the cable through a hole in the enclosure. I don’t want to break the connector.

I can now answer this myself because I accidentally disconnected the connector. The coaxial cable connector clicks onto the connector on the antenna quite nicely and the shield continues to work fine. I recently bought four more shields and the antenna cable now only has a connector at the shield end. At the antenna end the cable is soldered directly onto the board.
