Lithium Ion polymer Batteries

Hi,

All the Li-po batteries are 3.7V. Can I connect them in series to use in 5V application?

Best regards,

Bryan

Yes but this will lead to a 6.4V supply wich is high for a 5V equipment. You should use some circuit to step down power to 5V.

Putting Li Ion batteries in series will make it difficult to charge them. If you keep the batteries in series while charging, you should use a balance circuit to not overcharge one of them.
In my opinion, it is perhaps better (and safer) to use just one battery with a LiPo Rider (http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/lipo-rider-p-710.html?cPath=155) or some equivalent equipment. The LiPo Rider will control the charge process and deliver a well regulated 5V providing that you don’t need more than 350mA.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I could charge separate for safety. As long as I could use them together, I am ok because I read about how dangerous unbalanced load of Li-Po batteries. So I am worried that using them in series is dangerous.

Bryan
