Is it possible you could make a version of (or upgrade) the Grove - I2C Thermocouple Amplifier with the MCP9601 chip instead of the MCP9600?
The MCP9601 should be fully compatible with the MCP9600, but includes detection of short/open of the thermocouple circuit. We are currently using the Grove in a product, but it is an issue that we cannot detect an open thermocouple connection.
