After I installed the ReSpeaker 2mic, following the wiki up to but not including the Google assistant, when the file manager is started it aborts right after the window appears on the screen. This happens with both a Pi3 & Pi4. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
I looked in the log files i /var/log and found nothing.

Could you check the power adapter? is it proving enough amps? the issue might be related to having not enough power. please check and share findings.
I have the recommended power supplies, and did not have the file system aborts before I followed the wiki.
