ERROR response from Bluetooth Bee

I’ve connected my Bluetooth Bee through a UART to my PC, and found the correct baud rate (38400) to communicate with it, but I can’t actually get it to talk.

No matter what commands I send, I always get back the response “ERROR”

ERROR
+STWMOD=1
ERROR

and so on. Is there a way to reset the firmware, or debug the error?
