Hi I just started using Sensecraft with an EE02 DIY Kit with the 13.3" on firmware 1.1.2.
I searched the documentation senscraft seeedash but all links got errors. So, I hope someone could give me a basic support.
I successfully deployed a playlist of about 15 images to the device.
I now want to replace these images with a new playlist. I deleted images from the playlist in SenseCraft HMI and reduced the new playlist to only 6 images. However, when applying it I get:
“The device’s flash memory is insufficient for this playlist.”
The EE02 is still displaying and cycling through images from the old playlist, including images that I already deleted in SenseCraft. This indicates that the old images are still stored in the device flash.
How can I delete the old images/playlist from the EE02 flash without erasing the firmware and Wi-Fi configuration?
Is there a “clear device content”, “delete playlist from device”, or overwrite function in SenseCraft HMI?
Hi there, Titus, & welcome to the forum!
My answer is “POSTY” but I digress.
That cloud/HMI sync loop on the Seeed e-paper platforms is a common headache—SenseCraft treats uploads as cumulative until a partition boundary or file index tells it otherwise, which easily clobbers the onboard LittleFS/SPIFFS flash (especially with uncompressed 13.3" frame buffers).
It’s why I say LOSE the WEB requirement make a local only version. this stuff is NOT good.

What you’re running into is that SenseCraft HMI pushes new assets to device flash without automatically doing a clean garbage collection or purge of deleted playlist files. On the 13.3" panel, full-resolution bitmaps eat storage fast, so it runs out of space trying to stage the new images alongside the old ones.
Here are a few ways to clear the flash without blowing away your Wi-Fi credentials or firmware:
Deploy a 1-Image “Dummy” Playlist First:
Create a new playlist containing only one tiny, blank, or heavily optimized low-res image.
Deploy that single-item playlist to the EE02.
If SenseCraft sees a smaller total payload, it often succeeds in writing the new configuration file and truncates the active playlist pointer, after which you can push your 6-image playlist.
Web Portal / Device IP (If SenseCraft Local WebUI is Active):
Check your local router (or serial monitor) to grab the EE02’s local IP address.
Point a browser on your local network to http://<EE02-IP>/.
Depending on the exact build version of 1.1.2, some builds spin up a lightweight local web portal with a basic file manager/LittleFS browser where you can delete individual .bin or .bmp files directly without touching the NVS (Non-Volatile Storage) partition where Wi-Fi credentials live.
Serial Terminal / CLI Commands:
Plug the EE02 board into USB and open a serial terminal (115200 baud).
Hit Enter or type help to see if the CLI exposes commands. Many of Seeed’s SenseCraft/ESPHome-adjacent firmwares have commands like fs format, format, or rm targeting the /data or storage partition without touching NVS.
If You Have to Re-flash Storage via USB/esptool:
If SenseCraft refuses to sync because flash is 100% full, you don’t have to wipe the whole chip.
On ESP32-based drivers, Wi-Fi configs are stored in the NVS partition (typically 0x9000), while user assets/images sit in the LittleFS/storage partition (higher up in flash).
Erasing or reflashing just the storage partition via esptool.py (or through the web flash tool with “Erase all flash” unchecked) clears the image assets while leaving your network setup intact.
I tried the one-image playlist test, but I need to clarify the result.
I created a new playlist containing only one blank white image. SenseCraft indicated that it was being applied to the device.
However, the white image was never actually displayed on the EE02.
The device continues to display and automatically rotate through the images from the old 15-image playlist every 10 minutes.
So it appears that the new one-image playlist never reaches the device at all. The old playlist is still completely active in device flash.
Previously, attempts to deploy a replacement playlist resulted in: “The device’s flash memory is insufficient for this playlist.”
This looks like a catch-22: the old assets need to be removed to free enough flash for the new playlist, but deploying a smaller playlist does not remove the old assets first.
Is there a confirmed EE02 / firmware 1.1.2 method to erase only the stored playlist/image data while preserving firmware and Wi-Fi/NVS?
If a specific flash partition has to be erased, could you provide the exact partition name/address for EE02_13_3_color_1.1.2?
It’s why Software as a Service is a cop out IMO.
(clarify, in this case)
Albeit Technically, ESP chips do support erasing targeted flash sectors via esptool.py erase_region <address> <length> without touching the bootloader, app, or NVS (Wi-Fi config).
However, in practice, don’t waste your time trying it here:
Closed Partition Map: Seeed hasn’t released the compiled partitions.csv offset table for EE02_13_3_color_1.1.2. Without the exact hex starting address and length, you risk wiping into the application code or clobbering NVS anyway.
Mount Crash Risk: Unless Seeed’s firmware has built-in auto-format logic for a blank LittleFS/storage block on boot, blanking those sectors will cause the filesystem mount to fail and throw the ESP32 into a panic/boot loop.
The Catch-22: You nailed it—SenseCraft stages new downloads before running garbage collection, so once flash hits 100%, the OTA/cloud pipeline is dead in the water. now you have well , half a brick.
The quickest fix: Go ahead and do the full USB flash via the Seeed Web Flasher tool. It only takes about two minutes to flash and punch your Wi-Fi credentials back in, and it guarantees a clean partition state so you can load your 6-image playlist without headaches.

Sounds like a good candidate for the RE AI agents to get open source version…
the Internet has an Answer or angle for EVERYTHING!
A full flash worked! Thanks. By the way for a Mac user you got to do this in Chrome - Safari, Firefox are not working. Starting off with the EE02 really did not work out smoothly, partly because the German wording in the sensecraft was not spot on. Then in workspace u have photos and playlists but I can not check apply playlists to my device? On the device I may apply photos but no playlists. So playlists are just folders of cloud content? Thank you anyway. I build it into a nice slim oak frame.
