This is a picture of the back of my boards running at full brightness. You may notice it’s so f****** bright that the traces in the board have an x-ray effect.
I did use the thinnest PCB available…

You don’t nesseicarily need a fan I recommend just using a passive heat sink and don’t run them at full bright all the time.
wow… i was talking about the drone propellor as a dedicated fan… but i catch your meaning… i am thinking i am going to have to make something custom… seen any dome / hemisphere or half spheres in RGB LED I am trying to get omnidirectional
Is this a design request?
What diameter sphere do you want.
Will a glass filled nylon frame be light and strong enough?
What’s the hardware budget?
My services are free for fun stuff like this.
I can just make you something custom and ultralight with my 3d printer and soldering Iron.
I’m a full end to end hardware and Software designer.

There is an insane array of available hardware for this application available. Buy the LEDs here, But by the microcontroller from seeed if you don’t want hot garbage.
I think for a drone application you would want to design a flexible PCB and have the LEDs installed on it by pcba service
I am dreaming… i will probably crash the drone before i get this going, but i will keep you in mind… currently just wondering if you know of any products, I am actually wondering if i should just tape a led strip on the arms and call it a day… but i want it to look professional… I am wondering if some type of glass or plastic lense is in order or maybe a 3d printed part with clear and embeded led
If you want to make it look slick, add 1% per weight UV glow powder to UV cured resin. That’s my recipe for a resin-based diffuser for LEDs. You have to be careful with the application though because resin is kind of heavy.
If you’ve been following my posts on the discord the ws2812 test rig I showed yesterday has its entire faceplate covered in an early version of my diffuser resin.
It’s also fun because you can draw patterns on the surface that will remain after the LEDs are turned off because the diffuser holds a bit of the light and then re-emits it later.
I made a few sheets of it, if you shoot it with a laser pointer you could draw lines and patterns on it. It would make for a really fun slow scan CRT emulation art piece
One last special note about ws2812s.
You can attach up to four chains to the same output and they will all display the same image just fine.
You can even split the chain Midway down into two to four
My LED sword build runs two pairs of 15 off a single output

I really like this idea… it breaks all the rules… like dont 3d print propellors and if you do dont use 2 colors… I wish i could get power from the motor magnetic field
… You can sorta do that. Let me hunt down the link to the adafruit wireless LEDs.
The problem is they’re really heavy. I can 3D print a drone propeller pause it in the middle embed an incredibly light 1.5x1.5 mm LED in the tip of all three blades…
A 3.7 volt coin cell from an RTC would be embedded in the top center of the shaft. a single point tiny brushed connection would carry the data signal to the propeller.
You could do this probably for anything but the smallest of quads…
It would also be entirely waterproof
yes combine this with i have seen they can make a coil motor just by making a custom multi-layer pcb… a pcb coil with a capacitor and led… maybe an embeded microcontroller if you could get a bluetooth enabled microcontroller to fit… you could change the color with it… a man can dream
Well… I am working on a Nordic project…
Right now I connect to it over my phone on Bluetooth and I can turn the motor on and off that’s attached to it.
I’m writing a driver for it because one doesn’t exist yet to also run the ws2812 chain… it also has an IMU on board.
It would be a challenge but you can take the reference design from seed for the NRF 54l15 and build a whole ultra low power drone co controller to run alongside an ESPrunning Ardpilot.
I bet those chips paired on a board and talking over i2c would be a very powerful combination.
I have a crap ton of these used Continuious Glucose Monitors that have a coin size and have some sort of bluetooth enabled microcontroller on it… i wish i could find something to do with them… but they so small… do not know if they can be reprogrammed from test pads
Check if someone’s run doom on them yet. Lol

Tiny smd LEDs with pre-wired leads?
Hehe, I should spread out my LED elements collection for you and take some pics. I’ve tried them all.
i really like the car bulb kind… but it is 12v and i dont want to communicate with it using IR
I dont know why some links auto show and some dont
