Xbee shield covers needed PWM ports in Arduino

Hello,

I recently bought the Seeed Xbee shield to use it in an Arduino project. The thing is the shield covers PWM output ports 5 and 6 on the Arduino. I’m not in my comfort zone (I’m a marine engineer) and I’m not sure why this shield connects to these ports.

I’d like to know if outputting through these ports might damage the Xbee or cause any sort of malfunction. Can anyone suggest a workaround this issue?

Did you ever figure out if these pins are needed for the xbee shileld? I am not sure what they do other than securing the shield to the arduino?

Thank you,

Nope, never did.
