Standard Servo with Arduino Grove Kit

Hello from Boston’s Learn 2 Teach, Teach 2 Learn where our youth love using Grove Kits to learn Arduino coding.

We have a new activity this year to teach youth how to code servo motors. We’re using a dragon built on a linkage base that makes the wings flap and the mouth open and close. Our barebones cardboard base works great with the micro servo in our Arduino Grove Kits. However, when we add the all important decorations to the base, the micro servo struggles with providing enough power.

We believe that we might need to use a more powerful servo to do the activity and are considering making our own plug-ins because we could not find a standard servo Grove component.

  1. Do you have a pre-made standard servo plug in component that works with Grove Arduino?
  2. If not, can you give us some advice about how to make our own? Which of your wires should we buy to connect to the servo and do you have any tutorials about how to hook up a servo to the Grove component wires? Will this work with any standard servo or do you have a recommendation about which standard servo works best with the Grove component wires you sell?

Thanks for any advices you can give. This activity will be taught with 36 teenage youth teachers, who will in turn teach 600+ elementary and middle school youth in free summer STEAM camps at community organizations located in Boston neighborhoods with the greatest need for education resources. So you can help inspire many potential future engineers with your advice!
