Awesome, See Jérôme I told you the Seeedineers are omnipresent
SO I see it as the reTerminal DM with CM4 has already nailed the industrial HMI gateway space. Evolving it with the Raspberry Pi CM5, is a chance to leapfrog into territory nobody else is owning yet — combining edge AI, modular industrial control, and true interoperability.
Core Evolution with CM5:
- CM5 = Cortex-A76 + A55: ~3x performance uplift vs. CM4. Opens the door to edge AI inference at real-time speeds.
- Native NVMe support: Boot and data on blazing-fast M.2. No more relying on slow eMMC or SD. So many posts with issues using SD or even the eMMC we can do way better here.
- Dual 4K HDMI out: Enable multi-screen control, one for HMI, one for diagnostics or training UI.
Integrated Edge AI Coprocessor (like Google Coral or Kneron):
- Bring onboard dedicated NPU/TPU for real-time AI: anomaly detection, gesture recognition, predictive maintenance.
Hot-Swappable I/O Modules (magnetic or pogo-pin based):
- Think Modbus, RS485, CAN, PoE, or even LoRa/4G/Zigbee.
- Let the user snap in industrial interface modules like LEGO blocks, auto-detected via I2C/Eeprom handshake.
and my Favorite
Integrate Nordic nRF54 chips to form an optional 802.15.4 or BLE Mesh network to sensors without needing a hub.
reTerminal DM Next-Gen shouldn’t just be “better specs” — it should:
- Reduce install/config time,
- Eliminate need for third-party protocol converters,
- Empower edge AI without cloud dependency,
- Enable secure OTA in rugged sites.
This would be a very good start. IMO.
