Hi there,
I’m curious to know if a reTerminal version will be made based on the newer CM5 at some point?
Thanks for the information!
Jérôme
Till now,Seeed Studio has not officially announced a reTerminal version based on the newer Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (CM5). The current reTerminal model utilizes the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4)
Thanks for the info - how about _un_officially ?
More seriously, do you know if there is a product announcement thread somewhere, so I can monitor that?
Hi there,
So, If I were betting I would think two things from watching these spaces,
the more likely canadate would be the reTerminal DM
reTerminal DM, a 10.1" open-source industrial Human-Machine Interface (HMI) that serves as an Integrated Device Master. This all-in-one device, based on Raspberry Pi CM4, functions as a Panel PC, HMI, PLC, and IIoT Gateway. With an IP65 industrial-grade large screen, reTerminal DM is a next-gen interactive sensing hub, streamlining data flow and onsite device management."
Could be updated maybe… or
Sweet platform maybe…

Thanks, I think too that the reTerminal will get an update at some point, but it could be further down the line… I was curious to see if someone had some rumors or insider news.
We’re going to start with the CM4 reTerminal DM for now. I have some concerns regarding the perfs for some of the features we’re going to add to the app in the coming months, so we’ll make sure to benchmark that and check that it corresponds fully to our future needs…
Hi there,
I would agree , I made an Inquirey to the “Mole”
let’s see what comes back…
I smell the delicious fragrance of a NEW Xiao being cooked up so stay tuned. The Seeedineers are working hard behind the scenes

Make a wish here, list all the features you need, and let me try to build something based on that.
Awesome, See Jérôme I told you the Seeedineers are omnipresent
SO I see it as the reTerminal DM with CM4 has already nailed the industrial HMI gateway space. Evolving it with the Raspberry Pi CM5, is a chance to leapfrog into territory nobody else is owning yet — combining edge AI, modular industrial control, and true interoperability.
Core Evolution with CM5:
- CM5 = Cortex-A76 + A55: ~3x performance uplift vs. CM4. Opens the door to edge AI inference at real-time speeds.
- Native NVMe support: Boot and data on blazing-fast M.2. No more relying on slow eMMC or SD. So many posts with issues using SD or even the eMMC we can do way better here.
- Dual 4K HDMI out: Enable multi-screen control, one for HMI, one for diagnostics or training UI.
Integrated Edge AI Coprocessor (like Google Coral or Kneron):
- Bring onboard dedicated NPU/TPU for real-time AI: anomaly detection, gesture recognition, predictive maintenance.
Hot-Swappable I/O Modules (magnetic or pogo-pin based):
- Think Modbus, RS485, CAN, PoE, or even LoRa/4G/Zigbee.
- Let the user snap in industrial interface modules like LEGO blocks, auto-detected via I2C/Eeprom handshake.
and my Favorite
Integrate Nordic nRF54 chips to form an optional 802.15.4 or BLE Mesh network to sensors without needing a hub.
reTerminal DM Next-Gen shouldn’t just be “better specs” — it should:
- Reduce install/config time,
- Eliminate need for third-party protocol converters,
- Empower edge AI without cloud dependency,
- Enable secure OTA in rugged sites.
This would be a very good start. IMO.

@PJ_Glasso that’s a nice christmas wishlist!
For me the points highlighted as “Core Evolution with CM5” would already be a great way forward:
- CM5 for greater perfs
- Boot support for the NVMe bay
- 4K HDMI would be nice but not necessarily a must
For my use case some points would definitely bring great value:
- Boot from USB MSD for on-premise flashing (OTA, except rather Over-The-Usb)
- Integrate the wifi antenna at the back of the screen for great reception even without external cabling.
- Passive cooling makes a lot of sense in the context, even for the CM5
- Possibly a discreet black or dark gray finish option
We’re still talking industrial device here, so hot-swappable modules may not make much sense beyond the prototyping phase. I like the current extensibility of the DM.
The AI coprocessor could offer interesting opportunities, but I’m not sure we’d immediately make use of it.
It’s good to know Seeed is listening to the user feedback - but we already knew it from the user-driven Xiao roadmap!
