Let's make a LCD, I mean seriously fantastic one.

How about an über-segment-display?
Here’s a quicky concept i’ve been playing with…

Of course, the number of segments per digit would make this completely unfeasible next to a dot matrix for any practical and economical use, but it would look cool and be a ton of fun.

orcinus, that looks really cool! I think it would be worth doing over a dot matrix if you could make the segments join up without gaps. If it were a good size it would look much better than a pixelated dot matrix display when used in a clock or energy meter etc. I’d buy one

Thanks
I don’t know much about LCD manufacture, but i’m guessing routing the electrode leads would be a problem, considering the number of segments and the way they overlap.

BTW, just noticed i’ve missed “V”. And now that i think about it, i’m not sure how to implement it and make it different enough from “U”. Perhaps make the “U” square and “V” rounded. Or give the “U” a tail on the right side.

But yeah, it was just a conceptual idea thingy anyways
I’ve had another one for a sort of matrix-segment display. I.e. a regular matrix of segments instead of pixels, composed from sub-units shaped either like a modified starburst, or hex (or, beter yet, octagon) edges. That would allow you to implement different font sizes on the same segment screen, as well as various symbols and even some rudimentary graphics.

It’s looking great! Let’s ask suppliers if it’s possible to customize the LED segments like this.
Reposting the pic for our engineers, seems not accessible within China LAN.
