I am glad that I asked that question and appreciate BenF’s answer which points out that peak can be useful in normal mode while zooming a stopped waveform “if zooming out (increase T/Div) on a stopped waveform when in normal mode”. This appears to be a condition when display oversampling is averaging, while not in “Fast” mode.
