Hi,
I purchased both the Respeaker 2mic hat using the Cirrus Logic WM8960 chip and the Respeaker 4 Mic Array using X-Powers AC108 chip for testing.
I seem to be getting better audio recording from the 2 mic board as compared to the 4 mic board. The 2 mic board has more noise but a louder recording volume when testing from far away. The 4 mic array has a much lower recording volume.
Has anyone experienced similar issues? I would think the more expensive 4mic Array would perform better.
Hi, We tested the 2 mic and 4 mics. I use my cellphone to play wakeup word “snowboy” repeatedly and record by audacity. the distance is around 1m.
- We use the raspberry 3.5mm audio port as output for both pi hats. we can hear the 4 mics has higher record volume. please make sure you turn the raspberry speaker volume to 100%.
- For 2 mic pi hat, Then we connect the speaker to 2 mic pi hat 3.5mm audio port. the volume is higher than the volume on the raspberry 3.5mm audio port.
- There is no big volume differences between 2 mics 3.5mm audio port volume and 4 mics raspberry 3.5mm audio port volume.
thanks

I have the same question. It is not the volume from the audio OUT but how well the Microphone records.
I have used the 2 mic board and the 6-mic board, and I seem to be getting better audio recordings with the 2 mic board.
What is the differences in the microphone devices themselves between the 2 mic and 6 mic PI hats?
I have also ordered the 4 mic board as well, and will be testing that one.
Thanks
Hi there~
My bad to miss the point.
- the 2 mics use the WM8960 and the 4 mics/6mics use the AC108. The gain of the WM8960 is bigger than AC108.
- the 2 mics pi hat uses SAO-3729-M-42-008 mic. The 4 mics pi hat uses SPU0414HR5H-SB mics. The 6 mics pi hat uses MSM321A3729H9CP mics. the mic sensitivity is also different.

- if you want to test the performance, you have to use the fix audio source for the sound, then use the audacity to see the amplitude differences.
thanks.
