2 Mic's greater separation

Hi,

We’ve been using your 2 mic raspberry pi hat. Works great.

Does the WM8960 process the microphone signal at all, saving the pi cpu resources?

What we really need is the same ability, but need to spread the mic’s futher apart (maybe upt 50cm).

Do you have any advice on how we can do that? Do you have a board that has microphone 1/8" input for external (stereo) microphones?

We have tried I2S with Mems, but seems to be harder on pi cpu.

Thanks!

Richard

Hi Richard,

It works with 50cm. WM8960 does not process the mic data and only do the audio codec.

What does below question mean? thanks.

“Do you have a board that has microphone 1/8” input for external (stereo) microphones?"

thanks for the reply Bill.

The MEMs mics on the respeaker 2 mic hat are only about 6cm apart. We need to space them further apart, but the MEMs mics are soldered to the board. So WM8960 not process Mics… are mics I2S then straight to Raspberry PI?

Any suggestions on how we can have same as respeaker 2 mic hat, but with mics further apart?

Thanks again

Hi there~

  1. the 2 mics are connected with LINPUT1 and RINPUT1 signals of the WM8960. then the ADC digital audio data of the WM8960 connects with raspberry pi i2s. You can refer to schematic. <LINK_TEXT text=“https://github.com/SeeedDocument/MIC_HA … AT_SCH.pdf”>https://github.com/SeeedDocument/MIC_HATv1.0_for_raspberrypi/raw/master/src/ReSpeaker%202-Mics%20Pi%20HAT_SCH.pdf</LINK_TEXT> Here is the datasheet of wm8960. <LINK_TEXT text=“https://statics.cirrus.com/pubs/proData … 0_v4.4.pdf”>https://statics.cirrus.com/pubs/proDatasheet/WM8960_v4.4.pdf</LINK_TEXT>

  2. you can base on the schematic and redesign the layout to extend the space of the 2 mics. thanks.

Thanks… do you have a product that would allow me to use 2 external mics?

Hi there~,

We have all the respeaker products as below link. Sorry, all the mics are integrated in the pcb. thanks.

Can you suggest an easy way to “hack” the board to move one mic further away (like 10cm cable?)

Thanks!

Hi there,

You can cut the one of the mics on the board, then you can design one mic base on below drawing and use fly wire to connect with wm8960. But we do not grantee the audio quality. thanks for understanding.

Thanks!

Could we pay you to make a prototype for us? If so how much?

Then if it works could you produce the boards for us? If so what minimum quantity and what cost per board?

What we would really like is one mic on board like left mic, and plug in mic for second mic in 3.5mm jack (which I think is only output now). We don’t need any switch, LEDs or Grove connectors.

Thanks again.

Richard

Hi David,

I checked with customization team, the minimum quantity is 1K PCS. If you want to do the customization, you can drop mail to techsupport@seeed.cc thanks.
