Installing BenF 3.64 from a linux box, no go

Greetiongs; nice shiny new V1 from fleabay.

No windows machines available, only linux. Main box is an ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe, running the 32 bit version of PCLOS2012, all up to date with a 3.2.14 kernel, home brewed.

Holding right arrow down and turning it on gets this in dmesg:

Looking around I found the wiki that said I needed at least V0.5 of dfu-utils, but apparently only available as a .deb, so I grabbed that and use alien to install it on this rpm based distro, which was un-eventful once I had also installed the rpm-build package.

The man page says a -i or --list should show any dfu capable attached devices, but there is nothing found:

[root@coyote DSO]# dfu-util --list
dfu-util 0.5

dfu-util does currently only support DFU version 1.0

[root@coyote DSO]#

Trying to install one of the 3.64 files I have unpacked, returns this:

[root@coyote DSO]# dfu-util --device 0483:5720 -U “DSO BenF APP v3.64.dfu”
dfu-util 0.5

No DFU capable USB device found

Obviously I am missing something. 99% of the USB stuff is built as modules but I do not see any likely culprits I should modprobe in.

So, I could sure use a clue or 3 here.

Thanks & Cheers, Gene

I did get it updated finally, 2 things:

  1. The boot to dfu mode instructions were wrong, you have to hold the center of the 4 way button down, the instruction to hold the >|| button at powerup is as phony as a 3 dollar bill.

  2. Despite playing the 10,000 monkeys writing Shakespear, I still had to take it to a winderz boxen and run the DfuSe software on the windows machine to do the update as dfu-utils kept claiming a version miss-match & bailing out.

So there you have it, now I have to figure out how to run it again as the user interface has been changed. S/B fun.

Cheers, Gene.

Are you pressing “Upgrade?”

I followed a guide on youtube and it said to press “Upload” which not only did not work, but messed up the unzipped files.

So I had unzip again and do Upgrade.

Just fyi.

Yeah, I saw that, but the help said that was for downloading FROM the nano, so I didn’t upload.

The button I am referring to is on the nano v1, as a square white button with 4 active edges, pressing hard in the center of it I assume closes all 4 contacts, and that, not the >|| button above it, is what you have to be holding down with 30-40 lbs of pressure when powering it up. The manuals instructions on that are bogus.

Thanks & cheers, Gene
