Need help limiting range on RF links

Hi all

First off, I am new to all this, and have little to no background in electronics.
Though I do have a decent background in programming.

I am currently busy with a wearable computing project where I submit data across a RF link.
At the moment I have my RF links up using virtual wire, and it works beautifully.
The problem is that it is working too well.
For my project to function, I need it to only work at a range of about 10-15 cm.
At the moment they are chatting away like two teenage girls at ranges beyond 5 meters.

I am working with this particular RF link kit:
seeedstudio.com/wiki/index.p … F_link_kit
I have this connected to Arduino’s lillypad.

In the documentation they say you can limit the range of the link kit by adding in resistors.
I have experimented with this, and by adding a resistor to transmitter, I managed to limit the
range to approximately a meter, but I fail to limit it beyond that. As the signal either dies
away completely, or still works at approximately a meter.

So does anyone know of another way to fine tune these ranges?

Superb! Generally I never read whole articles but the way you wrote this information is simply amazing and this kept my interest in reading and I enjoyed it.

You are using the wrong RF hardware. Look at Near Field Communication techniques.
